Stage II – Main Descriptive Examination

Candidates who qualify the Preliminary Examination will be shortlisted for Stage II, the Main Descriptive Examination, which is conducted to assess their English language proficiency. Exam Pattern

The Main Descriptive Examination will be of 100 marks and the total duration of the exam will be 120 minutes. The nature of the examination is descriptive, requiring candidates to write detailed answers rather than selecting options.

Structure of the Examination

The question paper is divided into two parts:

  • Part A includes Essay Writing (250 words) for 40 marks and Letter Writing for 10 marks, which test the candidate’s writing ability, clarity of thought, and coherence.
  • Part B consists of Grammar for 30 marks and Translation for 20 marks, aimed at assessing grammatical accuracy and translation skills.

Stage III – English Typing Test

Candidates who qualify the Main Examination will be required to appear for Stage III, the English Typing Test. This stage will be qualifying in nature.
